Launch

Print some of the primary sources images and place them in sheet protectors. Split classroom into groups of 3-4 learners. Learners will explore the primary sources utilizing the framework from the library of congress: How to Use Primary Sources and the analysis tool


Tell learners that they are going to be looking closely at primary sources or raw materials of history. Encourage learners to answer questions from the teachers' guide. This tool can be naturally differentiated. Learners can either utilize the analysis tool and create a caption for the image they are studying, compare and contrast their image for that of another groups, they can predict what might happen an hour after the picture was taken.

This can be done whole group, in small groups, in partners, with an independent group and a teacher supported group.

Movement Break/Mindful Moment 

Play Sikeena: This fun game has a large rectangle subdivided into 6 smaller ones drawn on the ground. The players stand on their left leg while using their right to kick a circular shoe polish canister (aka alqais) to the adjacent rectangle. They then hop onto the same rectangle and continue the same till all rectangles are covered.
